Two patent applications have been filed for inventions made in the development of propulsion concepts.
Mr Oskar Levander and Mr Aad van der Kam have made an invention called Additional rudder for CRP propulsion. The invention presents a ship concept where a pair of retractable preset angle rudders is used in course keeping, in emergency steering situations, as well as to comply with the rules demanding a certain number of independent steering devices. The retractable rudders can be kept out of the water most of the time, thereby reducing the drag of the vessel, compared with a traditional type of rudder.
Mr Aad van der Kam has made an invention called “New retractable thruster design”. A retractable tunnel thruster works as a steerable thruster when lowered from the tunnel, below the ship’s hull. In the invention the only lowered tunnel part, covering the whole tunnel circumference, is shaped as a propeller nozzle. Other lowered tunnel parts cover only the needed area for the thruster body and support structure to move. In this way the nozzle length can be the same as in normally optimized nozzle, and also the lowered mass is reduced.
Many thanks for the excellent work!
